"Well, Aiden is still Aiden," she said, smiling.

"I'm actually glad to hear it."

Kana laughed a little.

"And... Kaji?"

"Dead," she said bluntly. "Gone."

"I am sorry."

Kana smild sadly remembering the day she met Kagi in the meadow and the three of them laughing.

"She's gone to, Shini, not dead. She just decided that she wanted to see the world. So I let her go."

Kana watched the rain slowly start to fade to a drizzle.

"So, Naka, where do we go from here?"

"I...don't know." She sniffed and rubbed her arms, looking down. "I-I just don't want to go back home...not right now..."

"Me either."

(I don't know what to do, PB hasn't been on in forever, so I am like in a big slump!!!)

"L...let's get out of the rain first. I don't want us to get pneumonia," she suggested.

"Yeah, okay."

Kana leads Naka to a small house at the edge of the clearing with a little grave with the word 'Mentor' across the headstone. To other graves stood beside Mentor's each with just a sword in the ground as a marker and prayer beads on the hilts.

"Meet Mentor, my best friend and the one who killed her, her fiance."

Kana said standing by the graves.

Naka frowned, looking down at the graves. "...this sounds like a long story. Shall we go in before you tell me?"

"Sure."

Kana lead the way inside and fixed two hot chocolate drinks and sat down at the table motioning for Naka to join her.

Naka took the drink gratefully and sat down. "Um...so, where did this all start?"

"When I was exiled from my clan I guess. Mentor took me in and promised to help me gain control over the curse that old hag fixed on me. He also had two other pupils, until you came along they were the only thing close to friends I ever had. One of them killed the other, and I killed him."

Kana sipped the hot chocolate an traced the wood pattern on the table.

"I see...that was a very...gory story..." Naka frowned at the mention of violence, but smiled when she heard that Kana thought of her as a friend. Or at least close to a friend. She drank more of her chocolate to get the images of blood and swords out of her mind. "Why did one of his students kill the other?" she asked further.

"Layna was my best friend and Ray was my first love. But when Ray got mad, he would go into a frenzy and swing, usually at me. One day Mentor told him to leave until he learned control, he got so mad that the blow would have killed me. But Layna took it instead, as I got ready to kill my former love she smeared her blood on my blade and it still remains there."

Kana breathed deeply to calm down.

"She said that I shouldn't taint myself by killing him and then she died. I found him a year later and I killed him. Then after, I understood what Layna meant."

Naka put her hand over her beating heart. To kill your first love.... She must have mustered up a lot of strength for that. She could never, ever kill Kaji, no matter what the circumstances were. Either Kana had been pushed by justice, or she was very strong-hearted. Naka didn't know whether to fear or respect her.

"I don't get it... What did she mean, by 'not tainting' you?" Naka asked, confused.

"She meant that I was not to blame for her death, but by killing him I would never forget or heal the way I would if I had left him alone."

Kana smiled.

"She was always the more level headed one."

"Ah, I see...by killing him, you would always have his blood on your hands..." Naka nodded, understanding a bit more. Layna sounded very wise. She smiled and wiped the chocolate moustache from her upper lip. "Do you miss her? Layna?"

"When I smell sunflowers, they grew where she use to live. Or when I find a moment in a book that is funny because I use to read them to her."

Kana smiled.

"But when I'm around people I trust, I can forget what that she is gone. So thank you Naka."

Naka smiled, touched. She hugged Kana tight and purred. "You don't need to forget that she's gone, Kana. You just need to always remember that she was precious to you...that you two were best friends. Don't forget her because of her bad goodbye. Remember the good times before then, ne? Keep your memories of her sweet and beautiful."

"Thank you Naka, you seem to bring out the best in me."

Kana smiled with tears in her eyes.

One day I will figure out what I did to deserve friends like these.

"You always had it in you. The ninja world just ptshed it down and made you stony. But you're a soft girl, under all that." Naka smiled and hugged her, nuzzling her face in Kana's bosom. It was a habit of her's now. "Do you still love Ryou, the jelly man?"

"Yes, but I have no idea where he is or what he is doing."

Kana's smile slowly faded as she thought of Ryou

"Hmm...he sure is taking a long vacation away..." Naka huffed as she leaned against Kana. "The boys are gone and the girls are left to play... So let's have a girl's night out! You and me!" Naka announced eagerly.

"That is actually a great idea."

Kana brightens up.

"So where do you want to go?"

"Where pretty, single girls go to... The bar!" she said, getting up and pumping the air with her fist. Alcohol always made things funner. Dangerous, but fun. "Come on, my treat!"
